    December 9th, 2006, at 7:00 PM; Ed's Potsticker House, 3139 S Halsted

You’ve read (and maybe dreamed) about the cigar-shaped pot stickers…

    Image

    …the multisensory dumplings…

    Image

    …the bone-in lamb with cumin.

    Image

Now’s your chance to scarf down this amazing-looking stuff (and vastly more; GWiv is ordering) and be a part of Chicago Food Chat History. Menu may be modified given availability of items, the whims of Wiv, etc., though comestibles currently under consideration include:

    • Cold beef with soy sauce
    • Ed's House Potstickers
    • Water dumplings
    • Smoked pork in pancake w/scallion and hosin
    • Crabmeat corn soup and/or hot & sour soup
    • Bone-in lamb with cumin
    • Szechuan string beans
    • Salt and pepper crabs or fish fillet
    • Stewed pork belly with fried tofu and quail egg in brown sauce
    • Chicken with hot pepper and bamboo shoots
    • Shrimp with celery
    • Sea cucumber and tendon
    • Whole sculpted fish, crisp fried with lightly sweet sauce
    • Almond flavored dessert soup
    • Duck tongue
    • Chicken feet
    • Szechwan tendon
    • Szechwan beef and maw
    • Corn cakes

From House of Fine Chocolate, we've ordered big fancy chocolate cake...just like they have for dessert in Ye Olde Sichuan Province.

Admission is $45, and that includes twice as much food as a normal human can eat in a day or three, as well as flowing drinks hand-selected by sommelier/bon vivant Pigmon (we'll be providing a few cases of sparkling Rose, some beer and mineral water -- but feel free to bring a holiday beverage of your own, if you like).

We're working on some live musical entertainment -- will post about when the contracts are signed.

This is a pre-pay event, and you can pay in one of three ways

    1. Hand cash or check to Cathy2, GWiv or David Hammond if you see one of us before December 7;

    OR
    2. Make out a check to David Hammond and send it to me at 205 S. Scoville, Oak Park, IL, 60302

    OR
    3. Buy online from Brown Paper Tickets (there’s a $2.12 handling fee per ticket); click the link:

    http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/8630

Tickets are limited and ticket sales close at midnight on December 7.

    In the holiday spirit:

    • Bring a food-related raffle prize (approx $10 value); when you do, you get a ticket to win another prize brought by someone else. Isn’t that fun?

    • Vital Information will be collecting food for the Oak Park Food Pantry; best to bring canned food, such as tuna and juice, or toiletries, such as diapers and kleenex. Giving is the true meaning of ChanukahKwanzaaRamadanChristmasWinterSolsticeFestivus.

After-party at Skylark…where you can see Antonius’ favorite urinal:

Bummer - I am going to be in Tampa with friends that night. The saving grace is that I will be at Bern's.

    Hopefully next year!

    justjoan,

You don't need to post an RSVP. Just make a payment in one of the three ways specified. If you're the 61st person, we'll make an exception...but just for you! :D

Yes, I saw: BrownPaperTickets updates me everytime someone makes a payment. It's a pretty cool site.

Glad you and CP can make it.

PS. Sometime in the next two weeks, I'll post a list of everyone's who is signed up to date. I will do that again as we get closer to the party.

Question?? How will you know exactly who signed up for the dinner? The credit card company doesn't know my screen name and I'm signed up under the less interesting name I wear most of the time.

I realize that I'm probably not that hard to remember, but is there some cross reference possible?

Giovanna, I was just notified by BPT that you are "on the list." (I won't reveal your secret identity).

    Cheque in mail.

Also, as some of us (you?) know, I'm an astrologer. I've invented a very cool nametag based on individual's astrosocial energies -- that I call the astroGIZMO. It's been "tested" at a few conferences & does seem to enhance interaction.

If you would like to give it a whirl at the LTHathon, please email me your screen-name & birth data (I need time and date) and I will compose your nametag for the event. Email me at mschief007@hotmail.com

    Thanks.

    SGFoxe,

I usually make nametags for events because it allows me to verify who is present and who isn't, especially when money is involved.

Do you mind elaborating on the nametag you are offering?

Okay, the word "astrology" is now an automatic pull in this thread. This is why we don't go near such things on this food board, thanks.

i'm really looking forward to this party and i appreciate the effort that the moderators are putting into it. but i'd like to suggest an alternative to the raffle for those, like me, who don't need or want another $10 food related tsotchke cluttering up their pantry. i'd much rather bring $10 in an envelope that can be donated to a food related charity such as Share Out Strength, Second Harvest or the Greater Chicago Food Depository, there's no shortage of options. those who want to have a raffle can, but i'm proposing a charitable cash alternative in addition to the items VI will be collecting.

joan--I hear what you're saying...and as someone who hates random clutter, I can appreciate it. But, I will say that last year's raffle was a ton of fun, and it being lthforum and everything, the "tsotchkes" we're amazing--many of them handmade foodstuffs, and other thoughtful, creative, hilarious gifts that highlighted what a talented and eclectic group we have.

Complete descriptions of last year's party, which will undoubtedly answer many of these questions, begin here:

The raffle, like any of the other expressions of holiday fellowship and good cheer at this event, is entirely voluntary.

thanks mike, if i had read a description of last year's raffle i wouldnt have been so quick to want out of the raffle.(of course i know that it is voluntary). hopefully food charities will be supported by those who care to give, but i'm selfish enough to want to throw something in the raffle pot so i can get something interesting back. justjoan

You have outdone yourselves with this ambitious wing ding :!:

Having missed the picnic (silly little 20th anniversary trip got in the way), I am keenly anticipating the food, entertainment, and good company.
