Julebord: Tre Kroner, December 2, 8:00

Last year, MikeG engineered an LTH gathering for the Julbord at Tre Kroner (Chicago's only three-star Scandanavian restaurang).

I just called and made reservations for The Wife and I for December 2 at 8:00 PM. Last year, it was fabulous: an authentic-feeling feast, angelic Swedish girl singing "Santa Lucia" with a flaming headdress, tables of happy blondes toasting with aquavit, and Studs Terkel sucking down lutefisk at the table next to ours.

Here's the menu from last year, which I'm guessing will be pretty much repeated this year:

If you want to go, post here or pm me and I'll make the extra reservations. The cost is like 47 bucks, it's BYOB -- and it does fill up.

We are going with a group on the 6th. It's a great spread, though, and we heartily suggest it for others in LTH. 9 kinds of herring for starters (almost worth the price of the meal itself)! Have a great dinner.

I was planning to bring this up as the season rolled around but glad to see someone else did it. I wasn't sure if this was going to be a good meal or just an experience but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the multiple kinds of herring as well as the other interesting things to try. I highly recommend everyone giving it a try at least once.

Count me among those who really enjoyed last year's dinner and the company of LTH friends. Despite being raised in Minnesota, Julbord 2005 was the occasion of my first lutefisk tasting. So this year, I am waiting until my daughter comes home from school to visit Tre Kronor -- otherwise I would gladly join in on the 2nd.
