facets multimedia is showing another movie about food. this one is about the mechanization of the food industry "where the difference between a cow and an apple is a matter of equipment, and where humans are employed only when there isn’t yet a machine efficient enough to replace them." ( www.nytimes.com/2006/11/22/dining/22brea.html).
this is a very powerful movie, not for the squeamish. i was only able to sit through half of it- i left when they started gutting pigs. there is no narration, at all, the images scream loudly enough that a proselitizing voiceover is rendered unnecessary. apples are treated more tenderly than baby chicks. workers are dehumanized and seem robotic. this is a very, very scary movie and confirms the importance of purchasing food that is as cruelty-free, 'clean' and safe for workers and consumers as possible. the movie plays 7 and 9pm through nov.30
