The Chicago History Museum is hosting a 95th birthday party for Studs Terkel this Wednesday, May 16th, from noon to 1:30 PM. Studs will be there along with Rick Kogan, who will give an overview of Studs' work. Food related: There will be cake! Attendance is free with admission to the Museum. See http://www.chicagohs.org/ for information.
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.

I am pleasantly surprised that this thread is not at all what I thought it was going to be about.

I'm sure it says something---probably about my age--that I saw the topic and knew exactly what Josephine was talking about. :D

"You know you're getting old when they hold your birthday party at the Historical Society."

    Roger Ebert

Thanks to Josephine's reminder I attended the party and enjoyed it greatly. Studs was in fine form, still feisty, telling good stories. It was fun seeing all the guests, people I've been reading, watching and listening to for many years.

The cakes (one strawberry, one chocolate) were from Sweet Thang.
