I was on the lakefront for a charity walk this morning and on the way home afterwards I stopped at Lincoln & Leland for the annual German Fest. I don't know the official name of the event, but it includes a stage for some cultural events, a carnival game midway, a couple of large beer tents and a couple of food vendor locations.
Like most other attendees, I went for the beer and brats and wasn't disappointed. Here are some photos:
Grilling the Brats
I like these guys, and have bought my brat dinner from them (actually, from the booth they cook at) for several years now; they're lots of fun (I sense they have a few steins of good German beer before starting work - and during the day as well!).
Brat Plate
A brat on a good roll (it makes you work a bit, nothing soft or flimsy about them), some sauerkraut and a scoop of German Potato Salad . . . washed down by a large stein of German beer.
Beer Tent
There are usually two tents at this event, and because it was early-afternoon on a Sunday lots of kids/families were enjoying themselves (no admission charge to the tents).
I’ve always wished this event was more inclusive of the German community and commerce in Chicago and don’t know why that doesn’t happen; it’s such a small event and the city/area can certainly support something larger.
