A good dinner for a good cause: Monday, Oct. 22, Vella Cafe (1912 N. Western), seatings every half hour starting at 6:30pm.
This is a 3-course, byob dinner for $40 per person, with proceeds going to support the Logan Square Farmer's Market. Vella is sourcing much of the dinner from local farms. On the menu:
Roasted cauliflower soup with gouda croutons and toasted hazelnuts
Pork roast with apple cider glaze OR
Roasted vegetable galette with herbed goat cheese
Parsnip gratin, sauteed greens
Poached pears with cardamom ice cream and caramel
For those who have never attended the Logan Square Farmer's Market, it's every Sunday from 10am - 3pm near the corner of Kedzie and Milwaukee, and there are still another couple of weeks until end of season. The market tries to feature live music and at least one community organization every week, and it's the first market in the city to accept the LINK card.
I've watched the market grow from a tiny 3-vendor engine-that-could to a lively gathering place for the community, with a central emphasis on family farms and organic offerings. I know this annual benefit is part of what makes the market possible, so I thought lth folks who live near the area might be interested in attending.
Tickets are being sold at this Sunday's market or by calling the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce at (773) 489-3222.
