    Thanks, David, for the notice.

Given the weather, it's almost hard to believe that ramps are only a few weeks away.

Exactly my thought. I wonder if this planned, then they begin to pray.

I've long admired the ramp hunt posts and think I'm fairly likely to attend the dinner this year. Has anyone attended this evening event? What is the dress / atmosphere / group size like? Is Land Connection a nonprofit?

Almost completely off topic, but related to the weather comment - high school soccer season (girls, playing outdoors) starts on March 10.

Less than two weeks from now. They have moved the start earlier so we can all be colder. Hard to imagine that come the playoffs in May we will be fighting some 80 degree days, but I am expecting to work on some 20 degree days in March.

I was all over the site, and as a non-profit manager myself, was puzzled not to see the 501(c)(3) designation proclaimed from the rooftops, including on the donations page, privacy policy, history, etc. I checked again just now and don't see it. The organization also doesn't show up in the research tools I have access to. If anyone knows for sure what type of organization they are, please PM me (or post here).

You could ask them in person at the Evanston Farmers' Market (starts May 17) right behind the Hilton.

This hardly qualifies as "for sure," but I've noted their 501(c)(3) status from two sources. The first source/link also includes the date when Land Connection supposedly obtained their non-profit status.

One of the articles in the section "TLC in the news" states that they are a non-profit.

Thank you both! I'm still puzzled why this wouldn't be front and center (who wouldn't want to give these guys a tax-deductible donation).

I suppose if the weather does not improve, they can always buy their ramps at Amazon, of course.

    Hi,

For those who look at the forest preserves as a ramp fest. Please note you are not taking a fruit, nut or mushroom (which is a fruiting body). You are digging up a plant, which is frowned upon a lot more than nut, fruit or mushroom. It is best to do it in private lands with permission.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

C2, has anyone suggested doing this?

I know it was intended thoughtfully, though you could run into consequences. Just simply a public service reminder!

Thanks, C2, for helping me read -- I blew right past that comment, and you're right, of course, about harvesting on public lands.
