Join us as author and cooking maven Judy Bart Kancigor regales us with a celebratory saga of five generations of the Rabinowitzes, her food-obsessed East Coast family. Judy will talk about the traditions and recipes which so capsulize Jewish life: The pleasure of Passover
feasts, and her mother’s “best chicken soup ever-really!” There’s Gramma Sera Ftritkin’s Russian Brisket, cheesecakes, rugelach and mandelbrot, and the sweet life that surrounds these dishes.

Judy’s talk will be based on her recently released encyclopedic volume: “Cooking Jewish, 532 Great Recipes from the Rabinowitz Family.” The book blends recipes with over 160 stories from her extended clan, along with more than 500 photographs reaching back to the 19th century. The author will also tell us how she put together her compelling food memoir. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing, and all profits will fund the Culinary Historians of Chicago. And of course there will be samples to nosh.

Biography: Judy Bart Kancigor is a contributing feature writer for the Orange County Register, the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles, and a popular teacher of Jewish cooking and family life. She self-published her first cookbook, Melting Pot Memories, just for her family. Eight printings later she had sold 11,000 copies, and Workman Publishing offered to publish her new book, Cooking Jewish. She is the daughter of the late singer Jan Bart, a celebrated East Coast cantor. Judy lives with her husband, Barry, in Fullerton, California.
