I know this is last minute, but I was thinking of making a trip down to GNR Nominee Vito & Nick's tomorrow afternoon (Saturday 9/27) at 3:30 for a snack of some of the best thin crust Pizza in Chicago. Anyone want to join me? Please post here or PM so I know how many to expect.

    Steve-

I would love to join you and any others as I've never had Vito & Nick's pizza, but am out of town this weekend. :(

This turned out to be an ample table of new and old friends, seven in all. Thanks to each of you for the company and good spirits. I escaped in time to get my errands and work done and make it back home for a restful evening with Katie, who's not planning to venture out from Oak Park until we have our own +1 (hopefully in the next ten days). Gary, next time you call the house, just say you're "G Wiv" and she'll understand who you are faster.

Pizza at V & N was great, especially Ronnie's sausage, pepperoni, and hot giardiniera combo. Steve made sure we opened with a Little / Hot Nicky sandwich (many pictures forthcoming, I'm sure) which was a surprisingly tasty 8 oz brick of sausage on pizza bread (a Freddy).

You are prescient, my friend :)

That was, indeed, some great pizza. I was delighted that we were able to change our plans and join stevez, G Wiv and Santander. My first trip to V&N's, back in November 2007, was somewhat of a bust. We probably chose the worst day of the year to go there -- the Friday after Thanksgiving -- because they were slammed and very understaffed. I'm so glad we returned yesterday. What my family originally intended as a snack, turned out to be dinner, as the pizza was so delicious, we literally couldn't stop eating it . . .

    Big Nicky
A very tasty sandwich which really showed off the intense fennel in the sausage used at V&N's. It was almost too much fennel for my taste in this form but it worked perfectly on the pizzas.

    Sausage, Pepperoni and Hot Giardiniera
I saw hot giardiniera on the menu and it immediately sang my name. As it turned out, it was a good call. This was a terrific pizza.

The stevez: Sausage, Anchovy and Garlic
A delicious combination which all of us, including my 11-year-old son, loved. Since he's a big fan of lox and caesar salads, I had a feeling he'd enjoy the anchovies, which I don't think he'd ever had before on pizza.

Normally, I'm not a big fan of square-cut pizza because the non-edge pieces usually suck, compared to the the edge pieces. However, this was not the case with our pies yesterday. They were cooked so perfectly, that even the interior pieces had a crispiness that satisfied immensely. It was a pizza revelation for me.

Thanks again, Steve, for putting this together. It was a very enjoyable experience, all the way around.

[I mean, I second this nomination. Er, I already seconded it. After eating there again, I re-second].
