Hey jhawk1!! My wife and I are crawfish fiends and would love to attend this boil or a future boil. Are kids welcome to join in the fun? I've got two sons - ages 5 and 8.

    Agreed!

I'm not going to be in town, or else I'd absolutely be there. I about burst from eating crawfish, corn smeared with heads of garlic, sausage, and (fantastically-delicious) mushrooms that were boiled with the crawfish.

    Highly recommended.

    Seamus,
Thanks for posting the address! Yes in the early afternoon kids are welcome, we are a family joint in the afternoon. As it gets closer to game time and if it gets extremely crowded then we would hope you use your judgement as to when to pull the rip cord! My 2 and a half year old will be there early as well! Thanks, Danny

Thanks for the info, Danny. My wife reminded me that she'll be on a ski trip Superbowl weekend. So, we'll have to hit a future crawfish boil. It's good to know kids are welcome early on.

    Jen,
I was just contacted by the Tulane Alumni Association in Chicago and I think they are coming 40 strong! $3 Bottles of Miller Products and $4 Abita Amber pints is all the specials we can do. The cost on the bugs is really pricey this early in the season! It will be good and plentiful!!

Don't take reservations! Just show up and grab a bucket of crawfish, some newspapers and jump in! If you went to Tulane then you know how this works, alot of communal tables, big smiles, new friends and full bellies! That's about it. When the crawfish run out it runs out! Hope you make it.

    LTH,

Been years since my crawfish loving bride and myself attended a full-on crawfish boil and Toon's mudbug extravaganza really hit the spot. Danny Beck, the consummate host, capped it at 40-people which, with a starting point of 250-lbs of crawfish, worked out to over 6-lbs of crawdaddy's per person, not to mention halved heads of garlic, corn, potatoes and three types of sausage. I'm guessing Toon's broke even, at best, on the event, especially since they knocked the price down $5 for late arrivals as they would not get as many crawfish.

    Let the fun begin

    Image

Had the pleasure of running into Kenny Z and Elizabeth, good to his word Kenny put a hurt on the garlic, he won't have to worry about vampires for at least a month. Also had the pleasure of meeting the very friendly Beverator.

Crawfish were early season, tender, slightly small with a bit of give to the shells, they really absorbed the spicy salty boil mix, delicious. Speaking of delicious absorption, there were three types of sausage, andouille, kielbasa and low-rent hot dogs the hot dogs really drank in the flavorful cooking liquid, the highest and best use for chicken/pork cheapo dogs I've encountered. Mark Janic, who was helping Danny with the boil, a chef had the theory that as the dogs were highly emulsified, an almost airy interior, they absorbed a high percentage of the spicy crawfish infused cooking liquid. Out of season, and I'm guessing frozen, corn was ludicrously luscious as well, talk about greater than the sum of its parts.

Creamy Red Beans and Rice, made by Annie Beck, rounded out the menu.

Danny set up in the back of Toon's, outdoor cooking always a guy magnet.

Cooking 250-lbs of crawfish is a messy business.

Lets guess which Super Bowl team this happy couple is rooting for.
