COPRODELI USA: Cooking for a Cause

Local food-focused fundraiser will help the poverty-stricken in Peru

Rub shoulders with Chicago chefs and support the poverty-stricken, too. Coprodeli USA, a nonprofit dedicated to helping poor families in Peru, will host its “7th Annual Cocina de Coprodeli: Local Focus, Global Impact” on March 21, 2010.

From 2 - 5 p.m. at The Chopping Block (222 Merchandise Mart, Suite 107), participants will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cooking classes from Chicago chefs, high-end wine tasting from top Sommelier Dave Johnston of the Everest Room, and craft beer tasting from Certified Cicerone James Miller.

This year’s theme, “Local Focus, Global Impact,” highlights sustainable agriculture and food. Funds raised will go to agricultural and nutrition initiatives for poor communities in Peru. Guests will have the opportunity to make a direct impact by participating in a Project Auction – buying independent components of larger Coprodeli projects in Peru. YOU can help build a classroom or home, one brick at a time.

    Participating chefs include:

    Gustavo Castañeda of ZOCALO
Gloria Hafer of After School Matters
    John Manion of Branch 27
    Jamie Lopez of Simone's
    David Dworshak of Carnivale
Edith Castro of Ay Ay Picante
Jessica Oloroso of Black Dog Gelato
    And, Enrique Cortes

Kids are welcome! Tickets are $60 in advance, $75 at the door. Buy online at www.coprodeliusa.org. For more information, contact Coprodeli USA at sashac@coprodeliuasa.org
