There's so much talk these days about food quality - or lack thereof - and what's REALLY in our food that we begin to question everything we put in our mouths. It's hard figuring out Organic means versus Natural versus Sustainable. It's enough to make a girl dizzy and want to reach for the Doritos. But...stop! ChickChat can help.

"Food For Thought" celebrates Farmer's Markets, buying local produce and meats and hopes to enlighten about where our food comes from and how we can better appreciate the farmers, plants and animals that make up what we eat.

    Our illustrious speaker panel includes:

*Terra Brockman, Author & Farmers Advocate: Terra is the author of, The Seasons on Henry’s Farm: A Year of Food and Life on a Sustainable Farm - an enchanting read about her time on her brother's farm in Central, IL where he grows 655 varieties of vegetables. Terra also founded The Land Connection, an educational nonprofit that saves farmland, trains farmers in entrepreneurial farming, and connects local producers and consumers. Terra will describe what a "sustainable" farm is, compare and contrast Family vs. Corporate Farms and much more. She hopes to share some of her brother's wonderful vegetables with ChickChatters.

*Faith's Farm: Kim Snyder of Faith's Farm will share stories of life on the farm; and how Faith's raises their livestock "the old fashion way" (like Grandma and Grandpa did): on free-range pasture that is not chemically treated. Faith's Farm animals are raised with a gentle and humane hand; and Kim will enlighten us as to how this is not only better for the animals, but also for us human Carnivores. We hope Kim will be sampling some of her free range meats with ChickChatters.

*Growing Home: This non-profit on Chicago's South Side provides job training for homeless and low-income individuals by growing beautiful Organic produce on their rural and urban farmland and selling it at Farmer's Markets in IL. 100% of the proceeds go to improving their training program and to pay for upkeep of their farms. Growing Home is a Social Enterprise, meaning their success is not only in their bottom line profit, but also in fulfilling their mission to bring about social change.

*Lance Avery, Chef & Food Designer, Charlie Baggs: Lance has experience working for some of the food industry giants; and is now passionate about buying and cooking locally grown, pure food and helping people understand (and respect) where their food comes from. Lance will talk about the "Farm to Fork" trend that is now commonplace in many cities - including Chicago - where restaurant chefs prepare elaborate meals at a near city farm and invite guests to participate in understanding and appreciating the farmers, plants and animals that make up the food we eat. He will lead a cooking demo using local and organic produce.

*Purple Asparagus is our featured non-profit. The organization is dedicated to bringing families back to the dinner table by promoting all things associated with good eating. Their Healthy Snacks Workshops help Chicago school children learn better eating habits and how to make simple, healthy snacks and meals.

    FOOD!
At every ChickChat Soiree we strive to provide attendees with great food for them to sample. Our food sponsors are:

*Cousins IV: is a Vegan raw food and Organic restaurant. For those unfamiliar with Raw Food, don't think this means no taste or spice. Their menu includes yummy dishes like Portabella Melt, SeaFood Noodles, deep dish pizza, tamales and more. They're located at 3038 W Irving Park Rd., Chicago.

*Theo Chocolate: Based in Seattle, WA; Theo is the only Organic, Fair Trade, Bean-To-Bar Chocolate Factory in the U.S.! Theo will have a Chocolate Tasting Table so you can determine if their Bread & Chocolate, Mint, Orange, Coconut Curry or one of their many other flavors is your favorite! Willy Wonka has nothing on Theo!

    The evening will also include:

    *Wine and signature vodka cocktails
    *Dry Soda
*Interesting vendors (jewelry, fitness trainer and more)
    *Door prizes

    Schedule:
6:00 to 7:00 - Network, mix and mingle
7:00 to 7:45 - Speaker Panel, Q&A, Door Prizes awarded
    Event ends @ 8:30pm
