    ABOUT US & OUR PARTNERS:

Growing Home, Inc. was started in 1992 by Les Brown, Director of Policy for the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, who recognized that not only was the critical lack of living-wage jobs one of the major factors that leads to homelessness, but that a sense of purpose was also a necessary component of breaking out of the cycle of homelessness. Their programs provide experiential learning opportunities and employment in the horticulture field as well as a unique job readiness curriculum that helps reintroduces participants back into the workforce. 100% of the proceeds made from sales of organic produce are used to improve training programs and pay for upkeep of farm sites.

In summer 2008, future Fork and the Road co-owners Dimitra Tasiouras and Sharon Bautista organized their first culinary bike tour to explore the city and its gelato. They set out on the Giro del gelato ("tour of gelato") with over a dozen friends and visited 5 gelaterias on one spectacular day. They had so much fun on the gelato ride, they went on to plan a culinary Tour de France and the Vuelta a Tacos ("tour of tacos"). In 2009, they officially launched Fork and the Road to share these remarkable tours with more people, knowing there are a lot of other people out there eager to explore Chicago, get to know its neighborhoods, try unique food and talk to passionate restaurant owners, cooks and shopkeepers. In 2010 they are hosting six themed tours!

Chicago Public Radio is a media institution that creates award-winning content for people seeking to learn more about the issues and ideas that affect our community, our nation, and our world. Chicago Public Radio produces program such as This American Life, Sound Opinions, Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! (a co-production with NPR), Eight Forty-Eight, Worldview, and Radio M. It operates WBEZ 91.5 FM, one of the country's premiere public radio stations, and Vocalo.org/89.5 FM, an experimental web/radio service that seeks to expand the reach of public media.

If you have never visited this unique neighborhood, this is your chance! Come join us tomorrow for a special two hour experience: see how a fully functioning FARM is here in the city, consider what you have to learn about shopping and eating organic, and be part of a discussion about why eating local matters. And before leaving, enjoy three fresh salads prepared by the attending audience alongside Chef Kocoa Winbush along with a cold beverage (water, soda, and of course Goose Island beer) while the conversations continue.
