Help Save the Logan Square Farmers' Market!

Sorry for the late notice on this, but I just received this email:

"In late March of this year, Alderman Colon told the City that he objects to a permit being issued, and has told the Chamber of Commerce that he will not submit the fee waiver ordinance. In meetings with members of the Chamber Board of Directors, Alderman Colon has said that he believes that the Farmers Market has been improperly used for partisan political purposes, particularly allowing candidates to circulate nominating petitions, and he therefore is withholding his support.

...According to the City code (section 10-8-335) the Alderman has no power to simply veto a permit. He must request a hearing before the City Council Committee on Special Events and Cultural Affairs, at which he can present his objections.

[On] May 2 the Chamber learned for the first time that Alderman Colon had made the request for a hearing, which is scheduled for 12 noon today, May 3, in room 201-A on the second floor of City Hall."
