The Village Inn Will Skokie Be Hosting a Free German Beer tasting Thursday July 26th at 7 P.M.
The Three German Beers we are Sampling are:
Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen:
Brewed in Frankfurt, Germany
It pours a light apricot/orange color, and the head is very insubstantial. It only forms a small layer on top of the beer. It is slightly hazy, but less hazy than a typical hefeweizen.
The aroma is dominated by citrus and a bit of yeast. It smells quite refreshing, and some light malted wheat aroma mellows out the sharp citrus notes.
The flavor is light and fragrant with a hint of hop bitterness. It doesn't have a strong malt backbone, but is slightly sweet towards the end. It is very bubbly as it rolls across the tongue, and on the thin side.
Hövels Original
Brewed at Dortmunder Actien Brauerei
Aroma: Very appetizing malt. Honey, nuts, hay, soil, caramel. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied, smooth and sparkling. Taste: Interesting, but very mild. Starts weak (slightly nutty and grassy) and then emerges in coffeeish roasty bitterness. Finish: Bitter and roasty.
Radeberger Pilsner
Brewed by:
Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei Germany
Staw with a finger of fine whites, brilliant clarity. Sweet pilsner malts with a nice, woody and piny nose. Interesting take on the style for the geography, takes on a almost peppery nose. Flavor is grain with a hint of corn and some dry, earthy hops.
