Koco Table decided to close for both this week and next without telling me. I apologize to all for the late notice. However, ELG has wanted to visit Frontera at Northwestern for some time, and it is definitely open.

Please come to Frontera at the Norris Center, Lower Level, at 12:30 pm, Wednesday, December 19th.

    Frontera
    Norris Center
    1999 Campus Drive
    Evanston, IL 60208

Please PM me for directions and parking advice.

Again, I really am sorry for the last minute change. I can say that I have eaten at Frontera, and it is worth going to!

The Evanston Lunch Group hasn't tried JK Sweet in its newest incarnation. Please join us -- all are welcome -- to try the Korean and etc. menu at our last lunch of 2012.

Faithful member of the ELG, tarte tatin,* tells us:

The space that housed JK Sweets (in one incarnation or another) for more than 30 years is now the home of Koco Table, serving Korean cuisine. . . . The space has been redecorated and brightened, while the menu offers the expected Korean dishes. The server did tell me that they are working quickly to expand the menu. They also continue to offer ice cream and coffee drinks, like the old JK Sweets--a must, I guess, that close to the Northwestern campus.

    Koco Table
    720 1/2 Clark Street
    Evanston, IL
    847/866-7055
They list their website as http://www.kocotable.com, but I'm not sure it's up yet.

I'll roll the dice and join you for the current version of whatever it's called at the moment. 8)

Could be the second half of a great one-two punch as the LTH North Lunch Group is gathering on the previous day.

Hi- Is the place large enough for a group of 10 or more? I walked past there about 7:30pm last Thursday, and it looked like they were 2/3rds full at that time, and they have a small dining room. At least by the time you guys meet NU will be on break, and so maybe it won't be as busy as it was last week.

A core group of ELGers had a pleasant lunch at Rick Bayless' newest outpost in the Norris Center (student union) at Northwestern. Unfortunately, the new Frontera was only offering a limited menu because the university is on break between quarters. No soups or tortas were available, only guac and chips, tacos, and quesadillas. I believe this Frontera is quite similar to the O’Hare location (both offer breakfast items as well). It was my third time at the NU Frontera, and I was looking forward to trying more things through our increased ordering power. Oh well. Guac is fine, salsas are varied and good. The best fillings (they are similar for the tacos, quesadillas, and tortas) in my opinion are the shrimp, short rib, and mushroom. This is probably not a convenient location for those who are not on campus regularly, but it is a huge improvement over the other choices for those of us who are here. Despite it being break, and despite the limited menu, there was quite a line-up for the food!
