    Hi

    Happy Snow storm!!!

I have agreed to host the next dessert exchange at my home in Wheaton and I am trying to gauge how many people would be interested in attending. March is a difficult month because of the holidays so if enough people can not attend it may have to be pushed to April. Please let me know if you are interested in attending.
I will post the standard message soon.

    Hi,

I will be there in spirit, though I will in Indiana judging dishes for the National Maple Syrup Festival.

Wheaton is at least doable for me from Lemont, where I live. However, the food exchange is the following Tuesday, which takes up too much of my "cooking" time to participate in the dessert exchange. Alas, soon after I will be travelling for the holidays.

I'd like to attend, not sure what I'll bring yet.

Also - if someone is hesitating because of the drive - I can offer a ride from the Logan Square area

There are still spots left so please sign up as soon as possible.

    Here is how this works:

    1) I will provide a light dinner.
    2) Bring one dessert, no need to double or triple the recipe, there's always plenty!
    3) Bring containers for taking your samples home.

If you have been curious about the dessert exchange please think about coming so you can meet some of the lovely people that post on LTH forum!!!

I was thinking I would do a St. Patrick's Day inspired dessert. It will either be Bumble's Ginger Roulade, Black and White Irish Cream Cupcakes or Toffee Shortbread. Any preference?

I like all those, so I'm no help. Cupcakes are certainly easier to transport and divide. My cake also has booze in it so we could have a tipsy theme going...

I just found a recipe for St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake. Maybe I should make that next time and we can compare three of them!

I know that cupcakes may not be chic enough for LTH, but they are just miniatures cakes made from scratch. I think they hold up better than a slice of cake. I may go with the roulade, but it will get messy when you slice it due to the whipped cream filling.

well, ms. ingie, you DID ask if we had a preference........ and in theory, a cupcake could be a mini cake, but most cupcakes are piled high with frosting. w/o all that frosting they aren't terribly attractive. i don't like equal amounts of frosting with my cake. there's a higher proportion of cake to frosting in a slice of cake. IMO, that's the difference between them.

Well, this is the problem, nobody knows how to eat a cupcake. You chomp off the bottom third first and savor the taste of delicious naked cake. Then you eat the rest, minimizing frosting in your nose, and you ooh and ahh over the combination of frosting and cake. I can't believe you've been doing it wrong all these years.

I usually have to scrape off some of the frosting. Too sweet for me. Unless it is super delicous which maybe I will eat it all up.
