Gourmet food truckin’ to Oak Park

Pilgrim Congregational Church doesn’t look like your typical truck stop.

But from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, Oak Park’s Great Food Truck Rally will bring 12 gourmet food trucks to the parking lot of the church, 460 Lake St.

    I'll definitely be there!

They all sound good but I have heard several good things about the Toasty Cheese truck but they spend almost all of their time in the NW 'burbs.

Looking forward to their visit tomorrow.

I'll be stuffing my face there today! Same church lot as the Farmer's Market?

If anyone comes across any must tries or must misses, please post. I have high hopes for the Jamaican truck, but we'll see.

Well, not yet 3pm, and the jerk line is 30 deep. Tamale spaceship packed up and left. What' s left:
Taquero fusion. Line is about 20 deep.
    Cupcakez for courage 15 deep.
    Toasty cheese. Not taking orders.
Meatloaf place ran out of food. Will have more in 45 min.
    Beyond borders. Closed up.
    Mojo express coffee still going.
    That's all I see left.

    UPDATE:

Curried - closed and gone already
Tmamle Spaceship - closed, sold out
Ice Cubed - closed and gone
Toasty Cheese - closed for the day
Maetloaf a go-go - closed, they MAY be planning on reopening later but there was no one to ask
Taquerio Fusion was still open but the line was long and moving slow
Jerk was still open - a 45 minute line; skip the 3$ fries, the portion is comically small and has no discernable seasoning, the jerk chicken is good but 1/2 a boneless skinless breast for 7$ is a little steep.
Empenada truck was not there, hopefully it'll show up later
Beyond Boarders was there but not serving food

Hopefully you guys do beter than I did.

Curry truck just pulled back in.
    Jerk chicken was pretty weak.
Meat patty, kinda the same, just weak.
    Jerk fries. Yawn.

Wife 1.0 is in the curry truck line.

    Beyond borders just re-opened.
Slow cooked brisket, pulled pork, and lobster rolls!

    From curry truck:
Chana masala- lightly spiced, but really nice.
Chicken tikka Marsala. Little too sweet for me, but OK.
    Samosas- pretty good.

Stopped by at 1:00, three trucks were already gone and the lines at the remaining were out of sight. The length of the parking lot and then some.

Decided to take a pass at this time, ran to Scratch Kitchen and they whipped us up a couple of off menu Gourmet Grilled Cheese sandwiches and My Bride and I had a picnic.

Came back at 2:40 and Toasty Cheese had already stopped taking orders. Boo!

Well, the Chana Marsala was the star of our trials. Light on Chile, but very well spiced. Until this...

That wasn't cardamom, either. I got one bite full of crunchy rocks. It was very nice, otherwise.
