Wisconsin’s Rich Food Heritage

Steenbock Library is celebrating Wisconsin’s wonderful food heritage with cookbooks, food tastings and a talk by a culinary historian and CHEW member Traci Nathans-Kelly. Food and eating satisfy more than nutrition; our culinary traditions reflect our culture and history. Cookbooks are shedding new light on women’s, local, and national history. Humble recipes hold hidden information about the lives of ordinary people as well as their churches, organizations and communities.
5:30–6:50 pm, Steenbock Library: Browse the 5,000-volume cookbook collection, watch cooking demos, sample foods, and learn about local food groups…INCLUDING CHEW.
7–8 pm, Ebling Symposium Center, Microbial Science Bldg.: Hear former CHEW member Traci Nathans-Kelly present “Porcupine Meatballs: Finding History in Community Cookbooks”
Co-hosted by Steenbock Library with special guests CHEW, REAP, the GreenHouse and Wisconsin Local Foods Journal.
