Hi LTH,
I am a co-organizer of a three day symposium/festival exploring contemporary concerns of food production and distribution called Rooting: Regional Networks, Global Concerns. The initiative came about when a group of us artists were discussing the urgency of food issues as a theme in contemporary socially conscious artworks. We connected with
Inuag, the International Network for Urban Agriculture, who have helped us reach out to local urban food producers such as Growing Power. We are also partnered with a network of artists, activists, and food producers from Dehli, India and the outlying region, who will join us to present, cook, and mount artworks. 8/13- 10/11: An exhibition of artworks concerned with food production at the School of the Art Institute's Sullivan Galleries. 33 S. State Street, Seventh Floor. (Free)
10/11, 1 pm: A tour of the exhibition. (Free)
4 pm- 7 pm Keynote lecture by artist, Akshay Raj Singh Rathore and a closing reception for the exhibition. (Free)
10/12, 11 am- 5 pm: We are offering three tours: South Side Urban Ag ($40), South Side Arts ($40, lunch $10), and wild plant gathering in Jackson Park ($20).
6 pm: Dinner at Growing Power's Iron Street Farm with Chefs Scott Manley, Michael Sheerin, Michelle Garcia, and Jyoti Lazzaro. With performances and art installations by Akshay Raj Singh Rathore, Alberto Aguilar, and Collective Cleaners. 3333 S. Iron St. ($50)
10/13, 12 pm- 4pm: Symposium at the Cultural Center, 78 E Washington St. (Free with registration)
