Sunday, November 24th (the Sunday BEFORE Thanksgiving)
    1-3 pm
    Inspiration Kitchen Garfield Park
    3504 W. Lake Street, Chicago

They're lurking in my kitchen even as I write this: forgotten cookbooks.

Some were given to me years ago. Some I bought at the bookstore bargain bin and then never even opened. One in particular, a heavy, 500-page tome on pasta -- has been left untouched since I began my half-assed effort to go Paleo.

I know you have them too. So let's breathe new life into those dusty, unused cookbooks by swapping them for 'new' ones that we'll actually use.

Bring your unwanted cookbooks to the "First Ever Annual" Cookbook Swap and BYOB Brunch at Inspiration Kitchen in Garfield Park, where you'll get to swap them, even up, for different ones. All cookbooks are eligible, as are culinary memoirs, food reference volumes, foodie fiction and even diet books -- if it has to do with food, it counts, so bring it and swap it!

After swapping your books, join some local chefs, food writers and other culinary friends for a fabulous BYOB brunch. We chose Inspiration Kitchen for this event because of their good food and their good works in the community. IK offers an exemplary, delicious and VERY affordable menu in a contemporary, eco-conscious restaurant. They also provide outstanding training in the culinary arts, job assistance and support services to homeless and at-risk folks in Chicago. Can't get much "gooder" than that.

(I like the mahtzo-ball gumbo, about $7. See the whole menu and learn more about Inspiration Kitchens' mission here: http://www.inspirationkitchens.org/ )

The Cookbook Swap and BYOB Brunch will feature open seating between 1pm and 3pm -- come any time you like between those hours, but keep in mind that the restuarant closes at 3pm, so do give yourself enough time to swap, eat and socialize. Bring your cookbooks, your favorite booze, and cash for settling your portion of the bill. Note: Servers at IK are paid a decent hourly wage, so your gratuity will be donated to the cause -- tip well! And any unclaimed, leftover cookbooks from the swap will be offered directly to the students in the culinary training program.

Please note that this is the GARFIELD PARK location, on Lake Street just steps from the Green Line Garfield Park stop. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant, and plenty of street parking available if you choose to drive.

Please contact event organizer Shawna Bohn to RSVP or ask for more information: Shawna@BohnVoyage.com or (312) 724-7040.

"Dine well. Do good." We'll see you there!
