    Welcome to the 42nd Exchange!

My husband* and I are Oscar nerds, so this will be another movie-themed exchange. There is no need to make something from a movie released this year, you can get inspirations from any movie ever, whether it was up for an award or not. For some ideas, check out last year's Oscar Dessert Exchange thread: http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=36643
We even have a red carpet. Red...and pink and turquoise.

If you don't want to participate in the theme, that's okay too, I don't discriminate against sweets.

*My husband may not attend, but I will graciously accept desserts on his behalf. He'd like to thank God that such a thing exists.

    Basic exchange rules:
    1) I will provide a light dinner.
    2) Bring one dessert, no need to double or triple the recipe, there's always plenty!
    3) Bring containers for taking your samples home.
    4) Come hungry!

    ATTENDEES
    ----------
Pie Lady (Hostess) - dinner: Matzo Ball Gumbo (The Rabbi's Cat, and also Mud, see below)
dessert: Mississippi Mud Cake (for Mud, the best movie of the year despite what they say about American Hustle).
mrsm - Banana chocolate chip cupcakes baked in ice cream cones with cream cheese frosting (Frozen).
    toria- ?
    Ms. Ingie - Twix pie
    suef - a surprise
Cookie Monster - Chocolate Lava Cakes
    justjoan - a surprise
Cathy2 - Sponge Candy (gold like Oscar!)

    Hi,

I am not likely to attend, because I may have a family birthday party on the same day. If that blows up, I will let you know.

I do look forward to whatever people do with this theme.

    Regards,

To go along with the southern theme of my dessert while honoring another good movie from 2013 (The Rabbi's Cat), I'm making Matzo Ball Gumbo for dinner.

For any of you folks that didn't know, I'm now at Irving & Kimball. We only have three people so far, so if logistics are keeping you from signing up, keep that in mind!

Still thinking about my contribution. Right now my ideas are something that looks frozen (hostess snowball look-a-likes? ice cream cone cupcakes?) to honor the nominee "Frozen" or something rum ball ish to honor the classic Arnold Schwartzenegger line "You should not drink and bake" (Raw Deal 1986).

Normally I would be in, but between soup and bread night, and the Mardi Gras party, I'm just too over-committed this month.
I'll have to enjoy this one vicariously thru the pix and do the next.

I, on the other hand, may have to bow out yet again on the Oscar themed event. I'm down with the flu, and at this point don't think I'll be in any shape to bake, let alone attend. Darn. I'm also missing the ballet today.

    Hi,

I will take Ingrid's place. The birthday event is out due to illness and a rather long unplowed driveway no mortal car can conquer.

I'm wavering, trying to decide if I should come or not. Definitely better than yesterday, but not 100 percent. I'm baking coconut macaroons, dipped in chocolate just in case; no time for Twix Pie. I am taking proper sanitary precautions. I'll decide in the next hour or so in order to give a heads up to the hostess and my travel partner.
