Patch Café is in the space that was formerly Deta's, which was a GNR, and ELG favorite. Patch carries over some of Deta's best (especially Burek).

the inter webs wrote:PATCH CAFE` is born from the fusion of IDOS Bistro and Deta`s Cafe' (famous for her burek) Now together they are able to offer a MIX of the two worlds, with their own unique blend of Pastries, Mediterranean Dishes, Quiches, Baked Goods and traditional American inspired dishes . It is a wonderful place where you can come and relax in front of a delicious meal or a cup of coffee, tea or even Turkish coffee.

Pastries, sweet breads, and cookies from the owner are sold at the Evanston Farmer's Market (not under the name of Patch Cafe; I don't recall the name). They are quite good.

I will try to make it, but that whole week is bad for me, workwise. I'll post a definite answer once I get the September schedule, which won't be until after Labor Day.... Hope to see you all then.

For those unfamiliar with the location, Tom meant to write "(1/2 block south of Howard)"....

My bad. (Do people still say that?) Fixed above. Thanks for catching it.

Patch Cafe is closed. I stopped by late last week, saw no furniture and checked with the hair salon next door. They confirmed that it had been closed for more than a month and they did not think it would reopen.
Nr706, I emailed you that day but apparently my email was not received. I am not set up for messaging so I decided to post here.
We need a new location for our lunch this month.

With the closing of Patch, I’ve explored a number of other options (zero is a number, right? - although the actual number is greater than zero) for the Evanston Lunch Group’s September get-together.

I’ve made an executive decision (subject to derision) that the Evanston Lunch Group™ will convene on the same date - Wednesday Sept 17, 12:30 pm, at Curt’s Cafe, 2922 Central St. Evanston (formerly the home of Casteel Coffee). It’s a place that, as far as I know, hasn’t gotten a single mention on LTH (someone, please prove me wrong). The menu is not particularly ambitious (think soups/salads/sandwiches). But Curt’s (which stands for Cultivating Unique Restaurant Training) has as its mission teaching at-risk kids what they need to do to have and hold a job, and what it takes to make a living in the restaurant and hospitality industries. I think that’s worth supporting.

Moetchandon and I tried it out today, and while the food wasn’t exceptional, it was fine.

Please re-confirm, or at least let me know if that location doesn’t work for you; I want to let them know what size crowd to expect.

I have been curious about Curt's and will be very glad at attend. Thanks for coming up with an interesting place for us to try, Tom!

Our ELG lunch today was pleasant. The cafe has a very relaxed and comfortable feel. Their mission is certainly a fine one, and the food is fine as well, if no gourmet treat. The chicken "chili" soup was quite good--it was more of a chicken, white bean, and cumin soup--and my roast beef sandwich on marble rye was decent. We liked the artichoke spinach dip, served with pita triangles. I didn't taste the salads, but they won some praise. If you are in the neighborhood, it's a nice place to stop in, get a little breakfast or lunch, and use their free wi-fi. And you would be helping at-risk kids.
