hi all, so far stuff and i are in for a dessert exchange on september 6th at my home in logan square. the 54th dessert exchange has already been listed by razbry for OCTOBER 3rd so please look for her post to sign up for that. but october is too long to go without a gathering. IMO. all are welcome, old hands and newcomers. bring one dessert to share, and i'll provide a light dinner; vegetarian if need be. I HOPE TO SEE SOME NEW FACES AMONG THE WELCOME FAMILIAR ONES. THANKS! JUST JOAN

Sorry, I'm still on hiatus 'til the raspberry pickin'! :( I hope you weren't setting a date based on my participation!

Oh, I see what you're looking at. I was responding tentatively to razbry's post on the 10/3 exchange. I bet someone will be around for 9/6 though. Sorry for the confusion!

izzy will be joining us on sunday, so we are up to 5 people ( with one more possibility at the last minute). there's still room for several more people. i will be serving fresh pasta with sautéed chard, fresh figs, garlic and parmesan cheese. my dessert will be crispy peach cobbler (a recent recipe from smitten kitchen which did not turn out so well when i followed her directions, so i will modify and try it again).

I just won my Diet Bet so I think I would like to come. I have missed these exchanges but there was no way I was losing my money and the exchanges make that too hard for me.

Joan, just let me know if the meal isn't vegetarian, no need to change your menu for me.

Anyone know what they are bringing?

ok, we have 7 people. perfect for my dinner table, so we have a full house (leaving a seat open for ms.ingie, who might come at the last minute). i look forward to seeing everyone sunday at 4. it looks like another steamy day- so no back deck; rather the air conditioned dining room....

i want to ask everyone to bring a separate container for my cobbler, as it'll be pretty juicy. no one else has posted their dessert- so i'd suggest that it makes sense to bring several different containers for wet, vs. dry desserts. thanks

Does anyone have a pizzelle or waffle cone iron/maker I can borrow? If so can you bring it to the exchange?

If anyone has extra jars that they are not using can you bring them to the exchange. I gave out so many preserves and jams that I am left with not much this year.
    Thanks in advance

As requested, here is the peanut butter pie reciped. It is taken from Classic Home Desserts cookbook by Richard Sax.

    Graham Cracker Crust
    1 up graham cracker crumbs
    1/4 cup sugar
    1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

    Filling
8 ounces of cream cheese, softened
1 cup creamy peanut butter (do not use old-fashioned or freshly ground)
    1 cup confectioners' sugar
    2 tablespoons vanilla extract
    1/2 cup heavy cream

    Fudge Topping
    1/2 cup heavy cream
6 ounces semisweet chocolate (chopped) - recipe called for semisweet, but I used 72%

    1. For crust: Preheat oven to 350. In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, sugar and butter until well blended. Press evenly into a 9-inch pie pan, reaching up to but not over the rim. Bake until lightly browned, about 10 minutes Cool crush completely.

    2. Filling: Beat the cream cheese and peanut butter with an electric mixer at medium speed until well blended. Add the confectioners' sugar, butter and vanilla and continue beating until fluffy.

    3. Whip the cream until not quite still. Fold a large spoonful of the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture to lighten it. Gently fold in the remainder. Carefull spoon the filling into the cooled crust, spreading evenly. Loosely cover the pie and refrigerate until firm (about 3 hours).

    4. Fudge topping: Bring the cream to a simmer in a small heavy saucepan. Add the chocolate and stir until smooth. (I did this in the microwave) Set aside to cool to lukewarm. Gently spread the topping over the cooled pie. Refrigerate until firm, about 3 hours. Serve cold.

Easy and enjoyable conversation.. it was so nice to sit around the table and eat good food and have relaxed conversation. And the desserts were very good. Sue, the peanut butter pie was perfect.
    Until next month.
