Note, they are also discounting tickets by 15% until the end of October.

From Dave Raymond and Barry Sorkin:

    Dear Friend of Barbecue
I would like to invite you to join me for an evening fun, friendship and finger licking good food when the Illinois Barbecue Alliance hosts its annual Autumn Smoke at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 16 at Joe’s Bar, 940 W. Weed St. This barbecue bonanza will feature a menu with specialty items from many of the Chicago area’s leading barbecue restaurants, live demonstrations from barbecue experts, auction items and more.

While I hope the menu and a chance to meet and mingle with some of the Illinois barbecue community’s best and brightest minds is enough to entice you to attend, this year’s event will tantalize more than your palette. Proceeds will benefit a special project supported by the IBBQA: building a commercial kitchen in the Firehouse Community Arts Center in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood.

Most people in the Chicago area are familiar with the North Lawndale area for all the wrong reasons. This project aims to change that in its own way. The IBBQA is helping develop a commercial kitchen in the Firehouse Community Arts Center that will serve as a training center for the culinary arts. At-risk adults and youth will participate in classes that will teach them the skills they require to seek careers in the foodservice industry. The kitchen will also help feed those in need from the neighborhood and support the North Lawndale Community in various other ways.

As you well know, the restaurant industry has had a profound impact on me and my family. So as a member of the IBBQA, this project hits particularly close to home. Hopefully, you will be able to join us for an evening of fun and fellowship as we support this project.

And if you do join us, I promise you won’t leave hungry.

The Autumn Smoke menu includes specialty items from prominent members of the Chicago area barbecue community include: brisket from Smoque, ribs from Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue, rib tips from Honky Tonk, mini hot links from Lillie’s Q, Alabama sliders and housemade pickles from Blackwoods, macaroni and cheese from Q barbecue, fire roasted pizza made on green eggs from Real Urban Barbecue, lamb and fried rice from Dino Barbecue, hickory smoked porchetta from Barn and Company and smoked duck from Steamboat Barbecue

In addition to the mouth-watering menu, IBBQA’s Autumn Smoke will feature presentations from some of the area barbecue community’s leading players, including: an appearance by Lee Ann Whippen, award-winning pitmaster and partner at Chicago Q; renowned pitmaster and author Gary Wiviott will sign copies of his new book “Low and Slow: The Art of Barbecuing, Slow Roasting and Basic Curing”; Duce Raymond of Sweet Baby Ray’s, a veteran of the competition barbecue circuit, will demonstrate how to make bacon-wrapped turkey roulade; Charlie McKenna of Lillie’s Q will discuss brines, sauces and spices and Weber Grill’s Kevin Kolman will discuss barbecue on a Weber smoky mountain.

And pitmasters from the various participating companies will be available throughout the evening to network with attendees and explore a variety of barbecue-related topics and answer any questions.

Raffle prizes feature personal barbecue dinners for parties of four joined by restaurant owner and a guest pitmaster. Participating restaurants include: Big Ed's, Honky Tonk, Real Urban Barbecue, Smoque and Sweet Baby Ray’s.

Tickets are $50 at the door and the proceeds but you can purchase tickets via this link.

Thanks for your time and I hope to see you on November 16!

    Hi,

FYI - If you sent a donation without any benefit, it would be fully deductible. When you receive a meal, service or gift, then the net (less meal or other benefit) may be deductble. As always, check with your tax preparer.

    Regards,

This is happening tonight. It should be a ton of fun. There are some really good eats lined up. Is anyone else going?

Have tix and am going to try to stop by at some point but a professional obligation has come up that may make that impossible. :(
