After a lot of negotiation at our Ramen lunch last Thursday at Table to Stix Ramen shop, we finally agreed on our February destination ... Trattoria Demi.

It's been around a long time, but a number in the group said they'd never been there. A small place, it hasn't gotten much attention on LTH, except from its next-door neighbor Eddie Lakin, (as in Edzo's Burger Shop), in a discussion about calamari.

Eddie Lakin wrote:The one at Trattoria Demi in Evanston is pretty darn good. They toss it with sliced banana peppers and serve it with lemon wedges and marinara. Nice, big, meaty pieces of calamari, and they are careful not to overcook it.

So, we'll see if we can trust a burger guy's evaluation of calamari (and undoubtably try a bunch of other Italian stuff) at Trattoria Demi Wednesday, February 17 at 12:30.

Hope to see a big bunch there. Oh, and maybe some people, too.

    I'm in.

(And I'm sure Tom was just being tongue-in-cheek in referring to Eddie as "a burger guy". He's that, of course, but those of us familiar with his culinary background all know that his tastes and experience are varied and extensive.)

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

I have an obligation in the morning. I'm unsure if I can attend. Don't wait on me, but I might be there.

It'll probably be pretty easy to see the group, but the reservation is under the name "Tom."

Sorry that I didn't make it. I missed the 11:35 train from Union Station, and took the 12:35 to Glenview instead.

Good days in March for me are 7, 8, 9, (maybe 10), 15, 21, 22, 23, 29, 30. But if it needs to be another day, so be it.

Since it didn't have its own thread, I started one, with pix from our lunch. It's here: http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42882&p=507895#p507895
