The next dessert exchange will be Sunday, October 1st at my place in Old Town(what was formerly deemed Cabrini-Green) at 4pm. My place is 3 blocks from the Sedgwick stop on the brown line.

There is street parking. It will be permit parking at 6 pm, but I will provide a permit for anyone who wants to drive.

We have an active dog who will probably stay as close to me as she can.

A baker's dozen is the limit for participants.

Here is the basic format for the dessert exchange:

    1) I’ll serve a light vegetarian dinner
    2) Bring one recipe size of any dessert – no doubling or tripling of recipes needed!
    3) Bring a container to transport your dessert assortment home. (Or two, one for refrigerated desserts and one for non-refrigerated desserts.)
    4) Come hungry. You probably won’t want to eat another dessert afterwards for another month.

Feel free to make whatever you like. (Although in the past, some participants have been vegetarians and/or those who don't drink alcohol, just advise if your dessert includes those ingredients).

All, including newcomers, are welcome to join us.

PS If you need to cancel, can you please cancel on this thread so that if anyone else wants to sign up they can? If it is 48 hours before the exchange, could you also kindly reach out to me (separately).

    Thanks In Advance.

Am seriously considering making Mary Berry's Cherry Cake with my new KitchenAid mixer (Majestic Yellow, just like on the GBBS). Need to find decent glacé cherries that are also neon red. Any leads? I hear you can also make them yourself from maraschinos.

Treasure Island, Fresh Farms in Niles, and Plum Market may all have them. They are not inexpensive. And remember to set aside 12 cherries. I have been considering that for a while so would be delighted if you did it!

I spent $10 on candied cherries at Treasure Island (Paradise brand) but they have an off taste and I'd like to find others. I had thought about Fresh Farms but hadn't considered Plum Market. Thanks for the suggestion.

Martha Stewart, my favorite felon these days, maybe right about pumpkin spice but my guest is going all in on pumpkin for the dessert exchange! She believes pumpkin spice is life!

"I will be making a pumpkin tart with chai whipped cream, honey, and toasted pumpkin seeds!"

Count me a fan of Team Martha on this most important issue as we start the rapid decline into the darkness of fall and then winter!
