My boyfriend's really into everything pumpkin and has been trying to find a good pumpkin beer the past few Falls. He found out about one by the Southern Tier Brewing Company, out of New York that's supposed to be very good.

Has anyone seen this beer before? Their website doesn't really give any information on where to buy it.

According to G Wiv in the Double Li thread, he found it at Binny's in Niles.

Binny's on Grand (between Wells and Franklin) has bombers of the Pumpking. I would imagine other Binny's carry it as well.

Woohoo! The Binny's in Niles is just minutes from my house. Perhaps I'll make it a *very special* Columbus Day for us tomorrow, since we both have the day off!

    Thanks everybody!

I got the bottle of Pumking yesterday at the Niles location, along with a mixed six-pack of other pumpkin beers that Binny's had pre-packaged. I don't remember what was in there, but I know Dogfish Head was not one of them, which was good because we were pretty disappointed with their pumpkin beer.

I think we're going to do a little taste test later this week and I'll post back with our thoughts!

The Whole Foods in River North (State and Huron) had a lot of it stacked in a central display near the salad bar yesterday. I think I only saw 22oz. bombers, though, no 6-packs.

I found mine at the Peterson WF location.

    I'm pretty sure they're 22oz. only.

HUGE pumpkin taste. Bigger than anything else this year.

    Huge pumpkin taste is right!

In this case to me, bigger was not necessarily better. This is not an essence of pumpkin and other fall-type spices like many other pumpkin brews. This is in your face pumpkin meat.

    Strong stuff, too - 9%.

Glad I tried it, probably won't get it again.

The first pumpkin brew I ever had was at a microbrewery in Boulder, CO. I've been chasing the dragon ever since...doesn't sound like this is it for me, either.

Does anyone know of a good fall spice, hint of pumpkin version?

Have you tried Lakefront Brewery's Pumpkin Lager? It provides a nice blend of spices without overwhelming you with pumpkin flavor. The falling temperature and diminishing daylight might be a harbinger of winter's arrival for some, but every year, I know that I can enjoy a Lakefront pumpkin or 2 on a crisp evening. A minor victory, maybe, but a victory nonetheless.

I finally had the opportunity to try the Southern Tier Pumking. It does have a huge pumpkin taste but thats what I expected in a pumpkin beer. I expected a strong after taste but it had none. I really enjoyed it.
