I stopped by this new place right next door to Gruppo D'Amici yesterday before the Bears game.

Nice selection of wine and various foods and cheeses as well as some beers. I had a nice piece of Spanish Blue cheese, some bread from Bennisons and a bottle of Unibroue Trois Pistoles.

This is a joint venture between Eric Aubriot, Jamie Evans, and a couple others whose names I am forgetting.

They are doing weekly wine tastings Mondays from 6-7.

Is this place open now? I have seen people in there doing tastings, but the store itself didn't appear to be open yet.

Isn't this Eric Aubriot's new venture?

Yes, open for business. I bought my stuff there yesterday afternoon.

Yes it is . . . I wonder if he'll be serving some of his signature dishes from Alhambra.

Note that I am pretty sure their signage says "closed Tuesdays".

I haven't been in yet, as I usually only get off the train at Jarvis later after they've closed.

I could easily be persuaded to get off the train at Jarvis at 6 pm on a Monday to taste wine, however.

So far, I'm really enjoying Taste's addition to the neighborhood...it's delightful to step off the train at Jarvis on my walk home and stop and get some goodies for dinner and a nice bottle on my way home.

Most nights they're open until 9pm these days, so their email says...I'm usually walking by around 6pm, though, so I can't verify if they're actually open that late.

We went to the tasting last week, and enjoyed the offerings, and I walked away with a nice crisp Riesling that I would not have purchased otherwise. We sampled some wonderful cream Castello bleu cheese, and some of Deb's savory pudding (would be great for breakfast).

I'm sure we'll continue to patronize the shop weekly, and I'm more than happy to support a local shop owned by people I respect, rather than shop bigger/corporate stores.
