Bell's Oberon

I guess that when TS Eliot penned "April is the cruelest month" Larry Bell hadn't started brewing his Oberon yet. Since Bells releases this summertime masterpiece every April, sorry Thomas but I must disagree with your sweeping condemnation. As my son would say "Oberon is da bomb"!

I am close to finishing off the case of Hopslam that I bought from West Lakeview Liquors in February...just in time for Oberon, another great, albeit more readily available, brew from Bell's.

It's fairly easy to find, isn't it? Multiple Whole Foods locations had it on sale last week (don't know when the sale started or ends).

It is seasonal, but once it is released, it is easy to find.

Yep, exactly. They changed the name in 1997 due to copy write issue with another brewery.

I have to try it every few years. It always disappoints, and I'm a big Bell's fan for the most part.

Zoomer Wit was untouchable in this category until they changed the recipe about three years ago, and now it's not even worth drinking. I usually stick to the Sam Adams Summer or the real stuff, Wittekerke or Hoegaarden.

If you want a killer Michigan white, Calabaza Blanca from Jolly Pumpkin is the way to go. Haven't seen it around here, but if someone has, please let me know.

I've bought this beer at Binny's in the past. Although I don't remember if I've seen it recently.

For my money, the entire line of Jolly Pumpkin beers are stellar. All of their beer are aged in oak barrels, and the often have a hint of sourness to them. It may be a bit surprising if you're not expecting it.
