I went to the Bears game yesterday so Saturday night I put together a batch of apple pie shots to bring to the tailgate. They were pretty popular and kept me nice and toasty throughout the game (I brought a plastic flask full in with me.)
I know there's a wide variety of ways to make this but I kept it fairly simple.
1 gallon apple juice
1 gallon apple cider
4 capfulls of vanilla extract
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of brown sugar
7-10 cinnamon sticks
2 apples rough chopped
I boiled all of that together for over an hour. I've read that you want to let it go until the cinnamon has released it's flavor at which point they will unroll a bit.
I let that cool for a couple of hours, removed the cinnamon and apples and then added a fifth of everclear.
This came out really tasty. We hit a barbeque before the game and everyone that tried it was raving on it. It's dangerously delicious.
Anyone have other interesting additions or recipes they use?
