    6 #- Wheat LME
    3.3 #- Gold/ Light LME
    1 # Caravienne Malt

    Hop Schedule:
1/2 oz. Amarillo 60 minutes left of boil
1/2 oz. Amarillo 20 minutes left of boil
1.0 oz Amarillo 10 minutes left of boil
1.0 oz Amarillo 5 minutes left f boil
    1.5 oz Amarillo dry hop

    Yeast
White Labs California Ale Yeast (WLP001) - 1800 ml starter

is it fermenting at this point?

You probably already know this, but when you're looking into a recipe, go online and put the appropriate numbers through brewing calculators. I'm just getting into it myself, but Amarillo has an IBU factor that changes per batch (as with all hops). Your particular Amarillo should have that specific number. Running that number, combined with the weight and time in which it is boiled will give you an IBU profile for your end product. That'll give you a pretty damn decent idea of your bitterness factor, and combined with your end SG and your malts, you should have a pretty decent idea of what your end product will eventually be.

Nope, never got around to making it. Decided that I'd do Denny's Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter instead which I racked onto two vanilla beans in secondary a few days ago.

Would still like to give this one a try after I do the Delirium Tremens clone I have on deck.

Just got back from Vas Foremost Liquors (California and Milwaukee) with a 6 pack of Gumballhead. Think it was $9.49. Not cheap but much better than buying the bombers.

They said they are only getting a few cases so check your local beer store to see if they have any.

I am curious why this beer is so expensive in general. It is tasty, but I can certainly find better beers to spend almost $10 a six pack or $5+ a bomber on. Hell, any Ommegang beer is higher on my list at $4.99 per 750ml bottle. Mmmmm, Hennepin...

We had Gumballhead (on tap) at Hopleaf Saturday night.

Maybe I'm just reading into the name, but it does taste a tiiiiiny bit spicy, like bubblegum, on the first sip  I really liked it.

You might be reading into it just a tad too much ;)

Though perhaps not if the beer inspired the use of the name and not vice versa...

Maybe they've sold out? The following is from the Two Brothers web page

As a lot of you have emailed, we are in Costco in the Chicago area right now. This has been exciting for us. Thanks to all the supports there, we are the number two selling beer for them right now! I think that should bode well for us in the future.

As there was previous discussion in this thread I will mention that Two Brother's website shows that they will again be in CostCo stores beginning March 3. This was a great bargain last time for some great beers.

    From the website:
"We are gearing up for another run with Costco. We will be launching in about a week. We designed a new variety pack box just for them and we added a surprise just for you. Check it out starting the week of March 3rd."

I know they filter their water to specific specs pre-brewing which adds some significant cost, they also use a shit-ton of hops with their beers. Ommengang is great but that isn't really apples to apples, Three Floyds is a much smaller company delivering fresh craft brewed (crazy) american ales...

Three Floyds' brewpub in munster? They are closing for a few weeks starting March 3 (I think), so that might make it difficult for you.

As best I can figure, while bars in Chicago might be allowed to fill growlers of beer that they do not make, it may run afoul of certain regulations - most bars avoid the issue entirely and don't fill growlers. I have heard that Sheffields will do growlers but that infoation is second-hand, at best.

If you want 6-packs, try the Jewel off Ashland and Blackhawk. They have an unusually strong craft beer selection and Gumballhead seems to always be there.
    best,
    dan
