Hi- I have been meaning to post this for a while. On Mondays, Caribou sells their medium coffee for $1. I know they sell their regular coffee for $1, but I am not sure if they sell their decaf. for the same price. This is at the Caribou in downtown Winnetka, but I assume that this offer is good at all their locations. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- I was just in downtown Winnetka this afternoon. They have not had the $1 coffee on Mondays for a few years, and so I do not go there as often anymore, but I decided to go there today since I was in the neighborhood. The Caribou coffee place is still open there. It is on Elm street right next door to the bookstore. I think that Caribou also owns Peets, and that is why most of the Caribou stores converted to Peets. I do not like Peets coffee as well, and so I was glad that Caribou was still there. I have been to the Peets in downtown Evanston a few times, and their coffee is way too strong for me. Winnetka might be too far for you for a cup of coffee though. I have mostly been going to McDonald's for coffee. They have a senior special, and both the Skokie restaurant and the Evanston one on Dempster only charge me $.64 a cup, and I get a free refill. Some McDonald's charge more. I've never been able to figuire out what they consider a senior to be, because I am not 65 yet, but they never ask for my ID.

The Caribou Coffee in Winnetka by the Book Stall is open; does anyone know if it will switch over or be closed? The one in Glenview on Waukegan appears to be one of the ones that is now completely closed, but the folks in it told my husband that it will re-open as a completely independent coffee shop.

    From the Tribune:

...most downtown Chicago Caribou locations will remain open and be rebranded Peet's stores by 2015. Employees at the chain's Long Grove, Lake Forest, Northbrook and Winnetka locations said Monday that their stores also would remain open, eventually becoming Peet's.

My understanding is that the one in Winnetka will be one of the stores rebranded as Peet's; the one in Glenview is expected to open up as an independent coffee shop sometime soon. You'll have to verify; I believe the info about the one in Winnetka came from the April-June Openings-Closings thread here, and my information on the Glenview one is what the people at Caribou told my husband when he stopped in just before it closed.
