I am a big fan of the Keweenau Brewing Company's beers, all are well made. While at the tasting room in Houghton this weekend, I had what is the best beer I have had by KBC, their Simcoe IPA. It is a seasonal beer only available on tap.

My daughter and I brought in sandwiches from the deli at the Keweenau Coop in Hancock and we had a couple pints of Simcoe. We left and she needed a couple hours to study, so I did some exploring in a couple town I had not been to. On the way back to her house to pick her up for dinner, I was haunted by the Simcoe and stopped for another pint. I needed to see if I overreacted to the first one. Nope, excellent. Loved the grapefruit notes, which I also happen to love in some New Zealand sauvignon blancs. I hope KBC adds this to their regular list of beers that they can, so I can enjoy it when I am not in the vicinity of the Tap Room.

If you haven't been to the KBC Tap Room, you must go if you are in the Keweenau. What a great place for students on a budget. $2.50 pints of their excellent beers and $7.50 growlers! Plus, great atmosphere and you can bring in food to enjoy with the great beer. One of the places I need to visit every time I am in Houghton.

    Al-

This is most timely as we are headed to the UP next week. I will make sure this is a stop on our trip.

    Hi Mary,

If you have a house up there and haven't been to the Coop, it would be worth a stop. I haven't been to all of the groceries in the UP, but my daughter hates the options, beside the Coop. She is spoiled by her mom and dad going out of their way to buy good ingredients:). According to her, good and fresh produce is hard to find up there.

Well yea. There are more people in a 5 mile square area in Chicagoland than there is in the whole UP. The growing season is short and with limited market, they don't always get the choices you get. I grew up there and know well. The coop is a good place though.

We're going up with a friend -- her family has a place up there. She's also a fan of the Coop.
