It's common to find perfect wine pairings and there are resources for figuring out what goes with what (see this topic on Chablis pairing but what about perfect beer and food marriages?

I'm looking for those 'meant to be' pairings, which may include an Old Style and a pickled egg at the corner bar, but more on the order of a Goose Island Pere Jacques with a honey braised wild boar. (The Belgian style Pere has massive honey over-tones but still has enough of a clean finish to contrast any amount of fat).

Consider local availability - that French Country Ale you had with a Provencal roasted chicken on the bank of the Rhone may have been divine, but does a Two Brother's Domaine DuPage in a local bistro match just as well?

Disclaimer: I'm doing an informal review on my weblog of a what to eat with what to drink book, and I'm trying to back up my own list. And to figure out if I know what I'm talking about. I'll of course give due credit to this thread.

On this subject, I think Michael Jackson is your man.

Not the singing and dancing guy.

    The drinking guy.

On a personal preference, I really love a good English brown ale and a plate of properly fried fish and chips.

    Best,
    Michael

Last week we had a local porter--darkish, but not terribly sweet--with local oysters at Elliott's in Seattle. It was a very good match: the full richness of the porter was a nice jumping-off place for the briny, mettalic edges of the oysters.

I must admit that I wasn't terribly optimistic about this combo when we ordered it; but I was convinced by the eating.
