I didn't know that (which I'm proud to say). :) My guess about the labeling was motivated by AB's statement "Our beers are in full compliance with all alcohol labeling laws." It didn't occur to me that they don't have to list the alcohol content on the bottle.

    Oh, the irony . . .

at ChicagoTribune.com, Emily Bryson York wrote:The attempt to water down Maker's Mark in February did more than garner headlines. It resulted in a 44 percent comparable sales increase for the bourbon in the first three months of the year.

Although Maker's parent Deerfield-based Beam Inc. rapidly reversed its decision, it didn't stop Maker's fans from stocking up.

"This episode reinforces that Maker's is a rare brand that can inspire this rare consumer passion," Beam CEO Matt Shattock said in a call with investors Thursday. "Given the ongoing supply constraint of Maker's, we'll manage growth going forward and we anticipate being able to sustain the healthy sales growth rate for the brand result."

This is why I now (as of March 2013) drink only cheap Polish vodka and Early Times from a coffee mug. You aren't going to see them try to tweak markets by messing with the alcohol content - or anything else - in those potent potables, my friend.
