Haven't had it, but for cheaper and more likely to be fresh hefeweizen I like to go with Sierra Nevada Kellerweis. One of the best American hefe's out there imo.

per your recommendation i picked up a 6 pack of the Kellerweise. very good for a hefe--great nose, good finish, nice and light. i can't seem to strike out w/ any of the recommendations given in this thread

It's probably not entirely the right forum for this, but I have to mention that I've been boycotting Rogue since their heavy handed approach to a legal dust up with a couple New Orleans bartenders who dared to publish an outstanding pamphlet of "rule-breaking" drink recipes called Rogue Cocktails.

At Lillie’s Q last night, I’d been drinking moonshine cocktails (the Bloody Mary with house-made mixers was very good, with a “slim jim” that added an additional spicy element to the moonshine which, because it’s unaged, lacks some of the dimension we expect with other distilled corn products). The real eye-opener was the dessert beer we had with our banana pudding.
Having beer for dessert is, indeed, curious (at least for me), but this beer (which I could easily see enjoying before, during, or anytime around dinner) was truly memorable. It’s a Belgian-style (Tripel), and it spends a little quality time in a Jim Beam barrel, so in addition to the hoppy bitterness that contrasts with dessert and it has a sweetness that connects and complements the dessert.
Gary Valentine, who handles beer at Lillie’s, is trying to get more of this outstanding stuff, but I guess it’s kind of rare (limited bottling, I believe).

If such is the case may I suggest to the LTH administrators that they create a new subtopic to "What are you drinking?" that may be called "What wine are you drinking" where the members of the wine-drinking minority where I belong would feel less isolated when we want to share our own discoveries and preferences?
