Recently, I picked up a bottle of Amaro Ramazzotti. A quick check on
CocktailDB turned up zero cocktail recipes using it. I then sampled some on the rocks, and started thinking about what might fit its smokey orange profile. Here's what I came up with:
1-1/2 oz. rye whiskey (Rittenhouse Bonded is what I used)
1/2 oz. Amaro Ramazzotti
1/2 oz. sweet vermouth (I used Vya red)
1/4 oz. maraschino liqueur (I used Luxardo)
This turned out to be spot-on; I later tried using a bit more Ramazzotti, but it dominated the drink, so go with 1/2 oz. Also, maraschino is also a rather potent flavoring ingredient, which is why I went with 1/4 oz. in the first place.
Variations:
Switch the Rittenhouse for Old Grand-Dad Bonded to make it a bit sweeter.
For a smokier drink, try it with Johnnie Walker Black.
Oh, no! You have walked into the slavering fangs of a lurking grue!
