Death's Door Gin: Bee's KneesI bought a bottle of
Death’s Door Gin at
Pastoral right after a few sips I had at the
Family Farmed event some months ago. I've had it a few times since and never found it very…appealing. I had it in Gin & Tonic, I had it straight up, I had it with some kind of soda, but it never worked for me. Every time I drank it, my sense was that it was too herbal, so much so in fact that it kind of gave me a headache (I know what you’re thinking: I had just one small drink each time).
So it was with interest that I found a
a story about Death’s Door in the most recent Edible Chicago as well as a recipe that seemed…appealing . To summarize, my version, slightly modified from from Tami Lax’s recipe is honey, and about twice that in gin and water and half that in lemon juice. It’s good: the lemon, honey and water lessen the intense herbality while still letting the juniperness pop through.
And now…I think I’ll have another.
