Black ashberry juice

We found this bottled juice from Russia at Garden Fresh. It's a dark purple juice with a flavor reminiscent of black currant and Concord grape juice with a strong grassy component and an astringent bite.

Now I am trying to figure out if "ashberry" is really a chokecherry -- i.e. Aronia prunifolia or Aronia melanocarpa -- or if it is the fruit of the black ash tree, Fraxinus nigra. Googling, I found some sites that refer to ashberry as "Russian grape," but without further detail.

I just bought a bottle at Ann's Bakery/Grocery on Chicago Avenue for $2.99

manufactured in Cheboskary, Russia,
which I can only hope is now where near Chernobyl!

It's nice with seltzer!
