If McHenry entrepreneur Frank Manzo's business plan succeeds, Drewrys beer will return to store shelves for the first time since 1996.

I responded to a post about this on the Chicago Beer Society e-mail listserv. I should repeat myself here. :P
I have a memory of buying a case of 12-oz. returnable bottles of Drewrys from the {then} package-only Weinkeller store on 12th street in Berwyn in the mid-1980s. It was brewed by G. Heileman [at the brewery in La Crosse, not the one in Belleville, IL.].
    It was OK. :|

Schlitz has been pulled back from the brink of oblivion. Pabst Blue Ribbon is bigger than any time it was back in the 1990s (when you had to look for it even in Milwaukee). Olympia has won medals at the Great American Beer Festival; and is out here. (Try looking here.)
Good Old Potosi beer is being brewed in that town. I've had it. It was good. (It's only in Wisconsin for now.)
Iron City and American [brand] beer are being brewed in Latrobe, PA., and shipped to Chicago.
In New England, Narragansett is being revived and sold.
So why shouldn't Drewrys take a shot? As a transit historian, I also can point you to a number of photographs of Chicago Transit Authority vehicles with a Drewrys ad on its front, circa the 1950s.
Valuable links you can use, without the sales pitch: http://208.84.112.25/~pudgym29/bookmark4.html

Thanks for your well wishes and support! Drewrys is indeed making a comeback, and we're planning on being available this summer. Our first round will be in bars and restaurants in the South Bend, Ind. area, Drewry's historic home, and we'll be moving into the Chicago area shortly afterwards. If you're in the South Bend area, we're planning a launch party this summer for early supporters of our crowdfunding campaign at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-g ... er-revival. We're also collecting old photos, anecdotes and memories, so if you have anything to share, please find us on Facebook at Facebook.com/drewrysbrewingcompany. Thanks again!

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. That's what Chicago entrepreneur Frank Manzo is hoping will make his revival of the old Drewrys Brewing Co. a success in the Chicago market.
