I'm drinking a bottle of Boulevard Brewing Co.'s 'Pop-up Session IPA'. It tastes so good I want to sing. It tastes like one of the best Kolsch beers I've ever had combined with some dry-hopped West Coast/Rocky Mountain thing. Absolutely adorable flavor. The cereal/grain flavor is so nutty and oat-y and wholesome tasting - and magically prominent - it's hard to believe alcohol is a poison. The hops are not some mind-blowing obscure strain with a weird name you've never had before. They do pair with the barley malts perfectly; not over-powering, not sour. The kind of ephemeral, bitter, citrus-y hops that America should be so proud of. Suck it Saaz!

I'd compare it to 'Dry-Hopped Pale Ale' or 'All Day IPA' from Founder's. So much for West Coast/Rocky Mountain thing but hey, you know what I mean.

Any other Pales and IPAs anyone recommends for the non-hop elements? There are some interesting and delicious hoppy wheats that are becoming fadishly popular. I'm a fan but have only tried one or two.

Find a Stone "Ruination". I am NOT a hoppy IPA west-coast fan and generally don't go with an IPA at all. This one from Stone of all people I actually find rather refreshing, cleansing like a great IPA is supposed to be. And then we tapped a keg of their 17th Anniversary offering...wow...we're moving it, but it's a "not for everybody" IPA.

Greenbush Anger is a black "IPA" that manages to be hoppy and malty/coffee at once.

I'm normally not a fan of Summit beers, but the Unchained #12 100% Organic Ale - the first offering from new brewmaster Gabe Smoley is a nice combination of Palisade, Cascade and Centennial with good backbone, primarily from Pale and Munich malts. At 4.5% ABV, it's also highly sessionable. Frankly, the 100% organic claim isn't important to me, but organic or not, it's a tasty brew.
