I am a big fan of the Keweenau Brewing Company's beers, all are well made. While at the tasting room in Houghton this weekend, I had what is the best beer I have had by KBC, their Simcoe IPA. It is a seasonal beer only available on tap.
My daughter and I brought in sandwiches from the deli at the Keweenau Coop in Hancock and we had a couple pints of Simcoe. We left and she needed a couple hours to study, so I did some exploring in a couple town I had not been to. On the way back to her house to pick her up for dinner, I was haunted by the Simcoe and stopped for another pint. I needed to see if I overreacted to the first one. Nope, excellent. Loved the grapefruit notes, which I also happen to love in some New Zealand sauvignon blancs. I hope KBC adds this to their regular list of beers that they can, so I can enjoy it when I am not in the vicinity of the Tap Room.
If you haven't been to the KBC Tap Room, you must go if you are in the Keweenau. What a great place for students on a budget. $2.50 pints of their excellent beers and $7.50 growlers! Plus, great atmosphere and you can bring in food to enjoy with the great beer. One of the places I need to visit every time I am in Houghton.
