As for the Berkshire--it's in the freezer awaiting some time at home to cook something with it--it's been a bit crazy lately. Looking forward to it though!!

mtgl: "Harvested the remains of my Cascade hops plant today. Overall, a good haul: from a first year plant, I got almost 20 ounces wet, ten of which went into our current brew in two separate additions; the rest is drying as we speak. "

Wow, that is spectacular! When I was last in the Czech Republic I drove through the hops growing area Northwest of Prague and saw the huge fields of hops on those really high trellises (I'm sure there is a name for them). Fascinating. Of course, beer made within a few miles of the fields, on tap, is one of the great pleasures of the world.

First frost happens overnight. If you haven't already harvested the last of your tomatoes and peppers you should do so right now.

This was a pain in the neck because it is actually cold outside. It's done. I have lots of green tomatoes. I'm going to attempt ripening them as suggested in a box wrapped in newspaper.

So very, very sad. I don't think my seed catalog will arrive until December. I guess between now and then we can get the worms and make them feel happy, full, and at home.

Yes, but as soon as you start getting those seed catalogs, you'll be counting backwards to figure out when to start those lettuce and greens seeds for the chilly spring. My advice, brave the holiday season, take a little vacation in January, and don't forget to get those seeds ordered for the fast approaching Spring!

Now that I've settled (a bit) in Minneapolis, I'm hoping to be able to participate in next year's garden thread. Let the planning begin!

    Hey there Russ,

Have you met the folks over at The Urban Ton? They live in St. Paul & I believe Holly mentioned them on Green Roof Growers. I think you could have a true meeting of the minds with them & maybe even score a few eggs & perhaps mushrooms.
