Note that I only got one or two varieties in each shot, but most plants have two or more varieties available (yes, there are little white round eggplants, too.)

Meinke has always been my go to place. In fact, I'll be there tomorrow to pick this year's crop of plants.

I'm so glad you posted this as it inspired me to head to Meinke's to obtain supplies for my first rooftop/container garden. The folks at Meinke's were incredibly helpful, the prices reasonable and the selection...the selection was staggering!

What a terrific gardening center, absolutely worth the trip!

I've found many things to love about Meinke's....but, please remember that they have many many greenhouses and that greenhouses often struggle with certain pests, such as white flies. Always inspect your plants for any larvae on the undersides of their leaves. I never used to do that until I had a major infestation (that I wasn't prepared for, so missed it until it was much too late) and couldn't figure why.

I started looking at plants when I bought them; last year I noticed some larvae on some of the veggie plants at Meinke's. The flowers were all OK. In the end, I decided to purchase the veggies I wanted elsewhere, but I could have bought them if I was prepared to completely clean them before planting. This year I've grown my own so I don't have to worry about it.

It's not a reason not to go there or not to buy from them, as you could find these common pests at any greenhouse, especially on certain plants. But, it is something to look for and be proactive about.

Stopped by Meinke's today for some lemongrass, which I found right by the front of the herbs section, above some artichoke plants that I really had to stop myself from buying.

Anther find - "ghost" peppers, which I assume from the description are bhut jolokia plants.
