Found a bag of russets in my garage that have started growing eyes. As we decide what to plant in our organic garden I am thinking about growing some of these taters. But is it really worth the space, time and effort to grow these ubiquitous spuds that can be purchased cheaply at the grocers? It sounds relatively easy-just cut up the potato, plant eye side up and keep moving soil around the growing tubers to keep them away from the sun. But it sounds like they are prone to infestation and I would not want to attract any new bugs to our garden. What do you all think?
