I *Can* Like Lula's

Sure, I often don't like Lula's, but sometimes they really nail it (not just the roast chicken).



They called it tamales, but it was more a polenta type of thing, that is the stuffing was near the masa not in the masa. Moreover, the corn seemed baked (or something) not steamed as in a true tamal. So, bunkers...it was tasty. It was all tasty. The stuffing, as it was, was a tender pork in a chile sauce with signficant kick. The eggs and black beans were servicable at best, yet they hardly mattered against the other parts.

And now with Gloria's roast chicken place reopened on Fullerton, plus Carnitas Paisa and Fonda del Mar, you'll have all kinds of reasons to hang around in your old 'hood!
