So, it turns out that I have an appointment in Cicero (54th and Cermak) at 10 am, but I have to drop the bf off at work (34th and Western) at 8... So the question I pose to you guys is... Where can I go to kill an hour or so? Hopefully somewhere in the area, where I can get some breakfast? I read VI's post on La Quebrada and was wondering if there are any other options??

I have no specific places, but Cermak is filled with intersting looking places (most Mexican though). There is right near 54th a grill kinda place if you want that kinda food, and at Ridgeland is a greek dinner kinda place. I've written before about Pierre's, and for "regular" Mexican pastries (as compared to BonBom) it is my favorite.

Breakfast at Quebrada IS good though.

What do you get at La Quebrada? I have never had Mexican for breakfast before... I was also reading about Nuevo Leon, and that might be an option too...

Well, you can get pretty much anything for breakfast, and a lot of Mexicans eat tacos or tortas for breakfast. All of the antojitos that are made "in-house" are great at Quebrada including the gorditas, the sopes, the picaditas (like sopes w/o meat), the huraches, and the tacos. But, there is a ample selection of Mexican breakfast. Most of them are variations of eggs with sauces or eggs scrambled with things--one of the chowhounditas loves the eggs con tocino, which is eggs scrambled with bacon. My wife adores Quebradas chilequiles, torn pieces of tortillas (fresh made) soaked in either a red sauce or a green sauce. On the side you can have Quebrada's excellent salted beef, cesina.
