OK - in the matter of disclosure - my original lunch intention today was to hit DD Dogs. But their lot was full and I had to cruise the Noyes corridor to track down a parking spot. I spotted someone pulling out of a metered spot and there was 11 minutes left on the meter! The Parking Gods were on my side today. :D

I plunked a quarter in the meter and walked along the south side of Noyes. Being the nosy person that I am I looked in the various storefronts along the way. Two doors east of Rollin' In dough Catering I discovered Rollin' To Go. They specialize in cleverly named sandwiches, served hot or cold. There are a couple of pizza options along with some pasta choices. I had the Sean Juan - roast beef, chipotle mayo, sour cream, melted cheese on an onion roll. All of the sandwiches come with house made chips. My sandwich was good. The chipotle mayo had quite a kick. Drinks are limited to canned Coke products and Arizona Ice Teas. You place your order at the counter and they call out your name when you're order is ready.

Overall, a nice accidental discovery. A definite return trip when in the neighborhood. This place is related to Michelini's East. The history's on the web site.

You missed a good number of LTHers, who were right next door!

Small world. My routing through Evanston was a last minute deal. That might explain the parking headache....

Tee-hee! Now I get to dish on a sandwich place I tried before you, Dave... :D Prior to the realization that Al's Deli had a brie sandwich - or any kind of sandwich for that matter - I tried Rollin' to Go; it's funny you were the one to mention it, it kinda reminds me of YumBus and AOK Gourmet - IIRC I also liked the chips, the sandwiches were fine and fairly priced - except that it's right next door to much better ones (albeit with a longer wait and tighter quarters) at Al's.

Yeah - and look what happened to YumBus. I'm still taking bets on how long AOK sticks around. Next time I'm in the Noyes Corridor, I'll try Al's.

Al's is to Rollin' as Kaufman's is to AOK - they aren't really the same kind of thing. I would bet you'll like Al's roast beef sandwich, tho - make sure you report when you try it!

I will. FYI - I think there's some construction going on in the old YumBus spot. I need to do another drive by to confirm.

Exactly. I actually really like Rollin', especially their roasted veggie sandwich--nice balance of vegetables and cheese on respectable focaccia. We also use their catering service regularly for student events--way better than sandwiches from university catering. I enjoy their cookies, too--decent, lighter alternative to Al's cookies (say, if you're not in the mood for frosting).

Not in the mood for frosting???
Wow! What is that like? I've never experienced that feeling.

It's a good thing Al's is closed on Wednesdays, or I'd be headed back there today for one of those Belgian (not German) chocolate cookies--WITH frosting!

I'm very rarely not in the mood for frosting. Trust me, the majority of my weekday calories come from that large chest freezer. Basically what I was trying to say is that one can go to Rollin' to Go for cookies on Wednesdays. :D

Upon further investigation, there's a "Closed For Remodeling" sign in the window. Although it looks like all of the YumBus stuff is still there.
