New Taco Stand and Tamale Guy in Andersonville

The tamale guy has been around for a couple months-he sits on his cooler outside Edgewater Produce on Clark St. and sells pork, chicken, or pepper and cheese tamales in packs of three for $3/pack. He told me he tries to be there six afternoons a week, I think Monday through Saturday. They are tasty with a rich soft texture.

I just noticed the taco stand today. It was outside of a convenience store with a maroon awning just south of Winnemac, also on Clark. I visit the store several times a week but there isn't an obvious sign with its name anywhere so I just call it 'The Corner Store'. The stand had a neon yellow sign advertising "Tacos de Cabeza" so that's what I got. It was $2 and slightly bigger than a typical taqueria size taco. It was made with good quality tortillas and had fatty tender meat, but needed a little acid. Cilantro/onions and red or green salsa are available. I'm not sure if they serve anything other than cabeza tacos. They served it on a plate and covered the whole thing with foil to avoid messiness. The two men running the stand said they know the owner of the convenience store and plan to operate the taco stand at this same location Monday through Saturday, 8am-2pm.

I know taco stands have been posted about on here before but does this one have the potential to endanger these peoples' businesses? I'm not sure how the laws work. The taco guys seemed to have some kind of agreement with the convenient store but I really don't know.

I wonder if these are the same guys that were over by the Home Depot at Lincoln and McCormick. I'll have to drive by tomorrow and see if they are still there. I never stopped but a couple of my co-workers said they were pretty good.

That was my thought too. I've been meaning to check out the stand by the Home Depot. The one in Andersonville is a lot closer.

I don't know about the other one you guys are talking about but the one in A ville is set up like a mini stove on wheels-there's a little flat top and a large pot set down in some sort of steam well. The whole thing is spotlessly clean.

I just stopped by and had another taco this morning. Got some lime with it this time and it was delicious. I checked and the cabeza tacos are the only thing they carry.

This is great-I've lived in or around this neighborhood for about four years and never seen a taco stand before!
